Clemitsons in New Zealand
Robert Homer Clemitson emigrated to New Zealand from Sunderland in 1909.
In 1910 he was joined by his brother, John Emerson Clemitson. Both were from "branch 1" of the family.Robert returned to Britain for a visit in 1914. The story goes that he was to arrange for the remainder of the family - his brother, and family, and his mother - also to emigrate.
However, the Great War had just broken out, and he enlisted in the Durham Light Infantry. He died in 1919.
John remained in New Zealand, initially in Auckland, moving in the 1930s to Waiheke Island, where he worked as a labourer. He never married, and died in 1957.
